Edilberto Amorim De Cerqueira Filho, MD
Dr. Edilberto Amorim is the Director of the ZSFG Electrophysiology (EEG) Service, a physician on our Neurocritical Care Team in the ZSFG Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with expertise in neurological intensive care, telemedicine, and multimodal brain monitoring with EEG. He completed fellowship training in neurocritical care and epilepsy at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School), followed by a postdoctoral training fellowship in neuroscience and machine learning at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CSAIL: Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT).
Dr. Amorim's research focuses on the advanced neuromonitoring for patients in the ICU, developing machine learning techniques where computers study the patterns in EEG and imaging data to better predict outcomes for our most critically ill patients. He is looking particularly at stroke, traumatic brain injury, coma, epilepsy, sleep disorders, and other critical illnesses. Dr. Amorim has an exciting research program at UCSF.
