Patient Care
Each year, we take care of hundreds of patients in our inpatient hospital services, and thousands of patients in our neurology clinics.
We are unique in providing specialized care across all aspects of neurology to the most diverse patient population in San Francisco.
Our Clinical Mission: To provide world-class neurologic care at San Francisco’s historic public hospital, creating a sanctuary of sanctuaries for health and caring to the people who need it most, while addressing issues of equity and visibility in healthcare and society.
Research
The multidisciplinary research team of clinicians, scientists, engineers and many more at ZSFG leads cutting edge science, innovation and development. Our robust portfilio of federal, industry and privately sponsored researh studies are critical to prevent neurological injury, develop new treatments and determine leading practices to better care for our patients.
Our Research Mission: To support development of research programs that will improve medical care “from bench to bedside,” right now focusing in Neuroemergency (stroke, TBI, cardiac arrest, intensive care), Neuroinfectious diseases, Epilepsy, and Global Health.
Education
Established as a division at ZSFG more than 50 years ago, we continue the almost 150 year relationship between UCSF and the San Francisco Department of Public Health in advancing healthcare and providing world-class care to all. As a teaching hospital, we have the experts in each field working at the bedside with the next generation of physicians.
Our Teaching Mission: To provide world-class specialized training in neurologic care across the spectrum of neurologic disorders, with training focused on equity and access to health care for the underserved.
