Neel Singhal, MD
I am a neurologist trained in neurocritical care. I attend in the neurocritical care unit at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and UCSF. I perform basic laboratory and translational research to improve our ability to diagnose, treat, and prognosticate in patients with stroke and other critical neurologic injuries. My discovery research program aims to identify new pathways for neuroprotection and neuro-resilience by focusing on targets identified in human genome-wide association studies and on models of ischemia tolerance including the uniquely resilient Arctic ground squirrel. My pre-clinical translational program is focused on the use of multi-omic biomarkers to gain clues about new treatments for brain injury and neuro-recovery. My collaborative research in neurodegenerative disease brings together our laboratories expertise in mouse models with state-of-the-art CRISPR-based treatments (Clelland and Ma Labs) to work towards a cure for genetic neurological diseases.
